The family of Alain Delon, who died at the weekend aged 88, has denied the actor\u2019s request for his dog to euthanized and buried alongside him following outcry in France. <\/p>\n
Delon, an icon of French cinema known for his starring roles in \u201cThe Leopard\u201d and \u201cOur Story,\u201d died on Sunday. <\/p>\n
The French actor\u00a0had clearly expressed his wish to have his beloved Belgian Shepherd dog, Loubo, buried alongside him when he passed. <\/p>\n
He disclosed the unusual request\u00a0during an interview with Paris Match magazine\u00a0in 2018,\u00a0 describing Loubo\u00a0<\/strong>as his \u201cend-of-life\u201d dog who he loved \u201clike a child.\u201d <\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019ve had 50 dogs in my life, but I have a special relationship with this one,\u201d Delon told the magazine. \u201cIf I die before him, I\u2019ll ask the vet to take us away together. He\u2019ll put him to sleep in my arms.\u201d <\/p>\n Following criticism from animal welfare groups in France, Delon\u2019s family confirmed on Tuesday that they would not be granting the actor\u2019s controversial dying wish. <\/p>\n French animal charity, the Brigitte Bardot Foundation, said in a post on X Tuesday that Delon\u2019s relatives had confirmed that the dog \u201chas his home and his family\u201d and will not be euthanized. <\/p>\n Delon\u2019s request had been strongly criticized in recent days. <\/p>\n France\u2019s main animal protection organization, the Society for the Protection of Animals\u00a0(SPA), had criticized the request, stressing on social media on Monday that \u201cthe life of an animal should not be conditional on that of a human being.\u201d <\/p>\n The organization had offered instead to rehome the dog if needed. <\/p>\n Fellow animal welfare organization, 30 Million Friends, also strongly urged Delon\u2019s request be denied. <\/p>\n In an article published Monday, which also paid tribute to Delon\u2019s legacy as a \u201cfervent supporter of the animal cause,\u201d the charity expressed its hope that his dog wouldn\u2019t be put down whilst \u201cin good health.\u201d <\/p>\n They also offered to help find \u201csomeone trustworthy\u201d to take in Loubo if needed. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n The family of Alain Delon, who died at the weekend aged 88, has denied the actor\u2019s request for his dog to euthanized and buried alongside him following outcry in France.
