Emmy, Grammy, and Tony award-winning, American actor\u00a0Billy Porter\u00a0and celebrated South African television presenter\u00a0Bonang Matheba\u00a0have been tapped to host the fourth annual Earthshot Prize Awards in South Africa on November 6. <\/p>\n
The Earthshot Prize is an ambitious environmental\u00a0initiative founded by Prince William\u00a0back in 2020 that seeks to offer green solutions to some of the world\u2019s most pressing problems. <\/p>\n
Porter, who described co-hosting the evening as an \u201chonor,\u201d said in a statement: \u201cI\u2019m so inspired by the Earthshot community, and I can\u2019t wait to be part of an evening that celebrates creativity, human ingenuity, and artistry in all its different forms.\u201d <\/p>\n
Matheba said she was \u201cexcited to celebrate these incredible innovators who are making a significant impact on our planet.\u201d <\/p>\n
The star-studded, eco awards ceremony \u2013 set to take place in Cape Town, South Africa in early November \u2013 will also include special performances and appearances from Nigerian singer-songwriter\u00a0Davido, Tanzanian musician Diamond Platnumz,\u00a0South African composer Lebo M alongside the Ndlovu Youth Choir and internationally acclaimed DJ and producer,\u00a0Uncle Waffles. <\/p>\n
The\u00a015 Earthshot Prize finalists\u00a0hail from six continents, with France, Ghana, Indonesia, Kazakhstan and Nepal all having teams in contention for the first time. The winners will be selected by the Prince of Wales and a panel of experts including Jos\u00e9 Andr\u00e9s, Queen Rania of Jordan and David Attenborough. Each of the five winners will receive a prize of \u00a31 million (about $1.3 million) to scale up their solutions. <\/p>\n
Since the scheme launched, it has delivered more than \u00a375 million (around $100 million) in direct funding and in-kind support, according to organizers. The competition has five categories: \u201cProtect and Restore Nature,\u201d \u201cClean Our Air,\u201d \u201cRevive Our Oceans,\u201d \u201cBuild a Waste Free World,\u201d and \u201cFix Our Climate.\u201d <\/p>\n
Supermodel and TV host Heidi Klum, actor and activist Nina Dobrev, Canadian model Winnie Harlow and performer Tobe Nwigwe will be on hand to announce the five category winners. <\/p>\n
While celebrating the work of global environmental innovators, the event also intends to spotlight innovation from across the African continent. <\/p>\n
The star-studded ceremony will be available to watch globally through a special partnership with YouTube.\u00a0Earthshot Week runs November 4 to 7, culminating with the Earthshot Prize Awards on November 6. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n
