{"id":704,"date":"2024-08-15T17:01:15","date_gmt":"2024-08-15T17:01:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/investingsstrategist.com\/index.php\/2024\/08\/15\/sweden-confirms-first-case-of-mpox\/"},"modified":"2024-08-15T17:01:15","modified_gmt":"2024-08-15T17:01:15","slug":"sweden-confirms-first-case-of-mpox","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/investingsstrategist.com\/index.php\/2024\/08\/15\/sweden-confirms-first-case-of-mpox\/","title":{"rendered":"Sweden\u00a0confirms first case of mpox"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph-primary-core-light\">            Sweden confirmed\u00a0its first\u00a0case of\u00a0the viral infection\u00a0mpox\u00a0on Thursday,\u00a0which was also the first case outside Africa, a day after the\u00a0WHO declared\u00a0the disease a global public health emergency for the second time in two years.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph-primary-core-light\">            The person was infected while staying in a part of Africa where there was a large outbreak of the disease, Olivia Wigzell, director-general at the Swedish Public Health Agency told a press conference.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph-primary-core-light\">            The\u00a0World Health Organization\u00a0made its announcement over\u00a0mpox, which spreads through close contact,\u00a0after\u00a0an outbreak in\u00a0the\u00a0Democratic Republic of Congo\u00a0spread to nearby countries of a more serious type of the disease.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph-primary-core-light\">            \u201cWe have now also during the afternoon had confirmation that we have one case in Sweden of the more grave type of\u00a0mpox, the one called Clade I,\u201d\u00a0Health\u00a0and Social Affairs Minister Jakob Forssmed told the press conference.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph-primary-core-light\">            Wigzell said the person who was infected had received care and instructions in line with the\u00a0health agency\u2019s\u00a0recommendations.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph-primary-core-light\">            \u201cThe case is the first caused by Clade I that has been diagnosed outside the African continent.
