{"id":8531,"date":"2025-01-30T14:01:00","date_gmt":"2025-01-30T14:01:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/investingsstrategist.com\/index.php\/2025\/01\/30\/british-bishop-retires-days-after-sexual-assault-allegations\/"},"modified":"2025-01-30T14:01:00","modified_gmt":"2025-01-30T14:01:00","slug":"british-bishop-retires-days-after-sexual-assault-allegations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/investingsstrategist.com\/index.php\/2025\/01\/30\/british-bishop-retires-days-after-sexual-assault-allegations\/","title":{"rendered":"British bishop retires days after sexual assault allegations"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\">            A British bishop has announced his retirement days after he was accused of sexual assault and harassment.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\">            Channel 4 News reported on Tuesday that John Perumbalath, the Bishop of Liverpool, was accused of sexually assaulting a woman and harassing a fellow bishop.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\">            \u201cSince those allegations were made I have consistently maintained that I have not done anything wrong and continue to do so,\u201d Perumbalath said in his resignation letter.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\">            \u201cI do not wish this story to become a distraction for this incredible diocese and its people whom it has been an honor and joy to serve,\u201d he said. \u201cThis is not a resignation occasioned by fault or by any admission of liability.\u201d    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\">            The Church of England has been rocked by a number of scandals related to sexual abuse in recent months. In November Justin Welby resigned as Archbishop of Canterbury over his handling of a child abuse case.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\">            Stephen Cottrell, the Archbishop of York, has also recently faced calls to resign over his handling of a separate sexual abuse case.
